School of Information Science & Engineering

Brief Introduction

School of Information Science and Engineering was established on the basis of Department of Automatic Control, which developed into the Department of Computer and the Department of Automatic Control in 1987. In 2000, for the need of disciplinary development and rational allocation of resources, the two departments were combined into Branch of Information Science and Engineering, which was officially renamed as School of Information Science and Engineering of Shenyang Ligong University. For short, School of Information. For the need of development of the university, the school was split into School of Information Science and Engineering and Electrical School in 2015.

The school covers 5 undergraduate disciplines: computer science and technology, communication engineering, electronic information engineering, electronic information science and technology, network engineering;3 first-level master degree disciplines: computer science and technology, information and communication engineering and software engineering; 5 second-level master degree disciplines: computer software and theory, computer application technology, computer system structure, communication and information system and signal and information processing; and 2 engineering master degree granted fields: computer technology, electronics and communication engineering. Among these disciplines, computer application technology is provincial key discipline, national defense key discipline, while computer science and technology is the provincial characteristic discipline. Besides, the school has one National 863 key laboratory, one provincial major science and technology platform called “Liaoning Modernize Armament Technology and Equipment Engineering” (associated), and 5 provincial engineering centers, key laboratories and engineering laboratories called “Communication and Network Technology”, “Information Network and Information Counter Technology”, “Armament Science and Technology”(associated), “Modern Damage Control Technology and Equipment” (associated),“Collaborative Innovative Center of Wireless Network Communication Technology”(prepared). The school is also important training department serving the special needs for doctors in the country and major construction department of post doctoral research station in weapon field of our university.

The school now has a faculty of 103 people, 90 of whom are full-time teachers. Among them are 13 professors, 1 Professor level senior experimentalist, 38 associate professors and 4 senior experimentalists. 23 people have doctor degrees and 49 people, master degrees. There are 3 doctor supervisors and 45 master advisors. An excellent teachers team with optimal structure, high quality, young and middle-aged group as the main body has formed. 3 persons were awarded the state council special allowances, one person was honored as Excellent Talent in the New Century” by Educational Department; 1 person was honored as Excellent Expert in Liaoning Province; 4 persons were honored as Chair Professors of Liaoning Province. In the Hundred, Thousand, Ten Thousand Talents Project in the New Century in Liaoning Province, 6 persons were honored as the Hundred level; 5 persons the Thousand level. 3 persons were honored as the Excellent Talents of Liaoning Colleges; 2 persons were honored as the Outstanding Young Scholars of Liaoning Colleges; 1 person was honored as Provincial Teaching Master. Many teachers have also won other awards and honors, including Youth Science and Technology Award of China Ordnance Society, Youth Science and Technology Award of Liaoning Province, Women Honor Pacesetter, Excellent Teachers, Model Worker of Shenyang, May 1 labor medals, Advanced Individuals in Three People-Educating Program, and Excellent Science Workers etc. Meanwhile, the school has a provincial scientific research and innovative team named Information Network and Information Confrontation. Besides, the school has been awarded the Model Worker Family and Advanced Collective.

The school now has 2144 students, among whom are 1981 undergraduates, 198 full-time graduates and 33 engineering graduates. The school attaches great importance to overall cultivation of students in knowledge, practical abilities, innovative spirit and comprehensive abilities. In the construction of learning culture, many students won the national and provincial honors; what’s more, many students won over 100 national and provincial awards successively in Challenge Cup Science and Technology Competition for College Students, National Smart Cars Competition for College Students, Electronic Design Competition, Mathematical Modeling Contest and Program Design Competition.

Electronic Information Science & Technology

I. Duration and Degree

3-6 years, Bachelor degree of Engineering

II. Training Objectives

The major aims to cultivate students with full development of morality, wisdom, physique. Students, as advanced applicative talents, should master the basic theory and knowledge of the following fields: electronic system design, electronic design automation, information model analysis and design and so on. They should command the basic skills required by the major. They should be armed with a solid theoretical foundation and strong engineering practical ability, with innovative entrepreneurial awareness and a competitive team spirit, able to adapt themselves to technological improvements and changes of social demand. Graduates can be engaged in the design and development of electronic products, analysis and design of information models, as well as maintenance, management, marketing, research and teaching of related products in relevant enterprises, research institutions or advanced education.

Ability training mode:

The major implements the “3+1” ability training mode, with particular attention to the training of students’ engineering application ability. Based on the strong foundation of the curriculum in accord with the specialty, the practical training internship is in full use, enabling students to finish three pieces of works during the fifth, sixth and seventh terms and to accomplish the graduation design during the eighth term, making every student experience the concrete process of the work, accumulate rich professional experience with learning ability improved step by step.

Network Engineering

Employment-Obtaining Orientation:

Graduates in Network Engineering prepares for careers in big networking & communications operation enterprises, governments and public institutions and medium-to large-scale networking information centers, enterprises of network engineering design, enterprises for the development and manufacture in network and communication equipment and so on.

Training objectives:

The major aims to cultivate students with full development of morality, wisdom, physique. Students with a solid knowledge in mathematics, other relevant natural sciences, computer and communication, as advanced applicative talents, should master the planning and design、maintenance and management、security of network system, apply the relevant theories, knowledge, skills and ways of development, with some ability of project management and good comprehensive quality. They should be able to undertake the design, development, deployment, operation and maintenance of network system with innovative spirits and strong engineering practical ability.

Highlight on the cultivation of the ability in design of network software and security system.

Basic requirements of ability:

  • Good virtues and morality, cognitive abilities in science, humane spirit and art appreciation;
  • Application of English and interpersonal communication;
  • Strong capabilities in computer algorithm design and analysis;
  • Strong capabilities in design and implementation of programs;
  • Application of basic knowledge, methods and tools in network engineering to design, integration, management, maintenance, security and development of network system;
  • Primary ability to develop network systems and manage projects as well as have a good engineering quality and be able to select appropriate tools in the process of realization with a full consideration on effects on society, economy and environment in the course of design, development and management of system.

Ⅱ.Training Objectives

This profession cultivates the high-quality application-oriented talents with strong innovation ability and practical ability that should master the basic theory and professional knowledge of communication, systematically grasp modern communication technology, and possess strong abilities in RF circuit analysis, communications network project planning and computer application software programming. In addition, graduates will exert their intelligence and talent in Communication Engineering Design Institute, Mobile Communication Company, Telecommunication network companies, related research institutes, communications equipment manufacturing enterprises, troops and other units to engage in development and production of communication products, telecommunication transmission engineering design, communication equipment installation and commissioning, telecom operation and maintenance, etc.

Ⅲ.Special Features

Under the support of high tech military communication background, the profession consists of internationalized main subjects including Electrical Engineering/Computer Science which strengthen the capability training on the development of network and communication software and radio frequency electronic hardware.

This professional training is to cultivate complex personnel engaged in scientific research in the field of electronics and information processing in all sectors of the national economy, including design and manufacturing technology development, applied research, quality control and production management that develop professional knowledge, practical ability and comprehensive quality, master electronic engineering, information engineering and communications in the field of basic theories, specialized knowledge and professional skills, grasp electronic technology and information acquisition, transmission, processing and application of technical method, have a solid theoretical foundation and strong engineering practice ability, master electronic technology and technical acquisition, transmission, processing and application of information.

This major is the integration of electronic technology and information processing technology, combining hardware with software. It will cultivate the students systematically so that they can master the information acquisition, transmission, reception and processing technologies, expertise in information processing, embedded systems, electronic communications system integrated design technology. It will also provide students with the basic theory of electronics, information, communications and computer technology and other aspects, with a strong solution of electronic information engineering and electronic information applications in the design, development, application and system capacity to analyze problems and cultivate senior talents with a sense of innovation and practical ability in applied technology.

This major aims at fostering senior applied talents with the comprehensive development of morality, intelligence and physical development, the basics of Mathematics and Natural Sciences; they can systematically grasp the basic theory, basic knowledge and basic skills and methods of computer, network and information system, have professional competence and overall quality in scientific research, application and development; get the idea of the subject of scientific research and engineering projects, engineering methods and technology roadmap, understand the latest developments in computer science and technology; adapt to defense technology industry and the national economy, have a solid theoretical foundation, wide adaptability, strong engineering capability, good basic quality, a sense of innovation and practical ability.

The graduates can be engaged in computer teaching, scientific research and application, system design, technology development, product development.

The graduates can take up in the national defense, ordnance system of relevant scientific research units, units of education, enterprise, business, technology and administrative departments and other units engaged in computer teaching, scientific research and application, system design, technology development, product development, science and technology and other aspects of work.

The characteristics of this specialty are: outstanding "digital media information processing and transmission technology" application ability training.

Scientific Research

In recent five years, the school has taken on many projects, including 27 national level projects, such as National 863 Program, National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Program for Excellent Talents in University of Ministry of Education of China. Then, based on this, 23 scientific research awards have been achieved. Besides, it covers 49 provincial or ministry level projects and 52 cooperative projects with enterprises and institutional units. As for the awards, they mainly include one Grade II prize in National Science and Technology Progress Award, one Grade I prize in Liaoning Science and Technology Progress Award, two Grade II prize and one Grade III prize in National Defense Science and Technology Progress Award, three Grade II prize in Science and Technology in China North Industries Group Corporation and Liaoning Natural Science Academic Achievement Award. In the school, 301 high-level academic papers have been published in three major retrievals, in which 190 papers have been collected in EI and ISTP. They have been cited many times in Journal on Communicaitons, Signal System, Computer Engineering, and Journal of Telemetry, Tracking and Command, and got a better evaluation. In addition, the school has been patented 25 rights for invention, national defense, software copyright and utility model, and 6 academic monographs have been published.

Academic Exchange

The school follows the development idea of “uniting and opening”, which absorbs technical advantage and makes up the difference by developing wide academic exchanges. Therefore, the school is always keeping the wide technical exchanges and cooperation with the peer universities and scientific research institutes. Meanwhile, it is making full use of resources inside and outside the school and developing cooperation actively at home and abroad. Also, domestic and overseas experts and scholars in related subjects are invited as postgraduate tutors and they make research project jointly and give academic reports. In this way they can master the subject development trend and frontier. The school has cultivated about 20 joint training doctoral students with Northeastern University, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shenyang Agricultural University successively, in which 8 students have taken the Doctor’s degree. Moreover, young scholars from famous universities at home and abroad are received to take joint scientific research, and young faculty members are sent to many famous universities abroad, such as University of Illinois in the US, Aalen University in Germany, Tomsk University in Russia, etc. to take advanced study for the purpose of improving the research level and strengthening the subject influence.

The school has hosted the Seminar of Broadband Networking and Radio-frequency Technique, CCF Young Computer Scientists & Engineers Forum, and the Third International Conference on Intelligent Network and Intelligent System successively, which not only promotes the scientific research level, but also improves the reputation of the school.

Besides, the school has established Liaoning Collaborative Innovation Center of Wireless Network Communication Technology with China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, China South Industries Group Corporation, and China Electronics Technology Group successively. And achievement-transforming base has been set up with Shenyang Baoshi Jinka Information Technology Co., Ltd..
