School of Equipment Engineering

General Information

School of Equipment Engineering focuses on the specialties characteristics of national defense. Shaoqing Yang, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, is Honorary Dean of the School.

Established in 1948, the school changed its name to “the Northeast Military School” in August 1951, which was equipped with 3 departments, including Weapons Engineering Department ,Ammunition Engineering Department and Gunpowder Engineering Department and four professionals, including light weapons, heavy weapons, ammunition and gunpowder; with the restoration of the undergraduate education in 1978, it set up specialties of fuze design and manufacture specialty and shell design and manufacture; in 1985, it set up the Shell and Fuze Laboratory according to the national policy, and stopped running the two specialties; in 1990 the Ammunition Institute was established; in 2001 the Equipment Engineering Department was established, and recruitment of students was restored ; in 2004 the School of Equipment Engineering was established.

At present, there are five undergraduate majors about weapon, namely Detection Guidance and Control Technology, Ammunition and Blast Technology, Special Energy Technology and Engineering, Launching Weapon Engineering, Information Warfare Technology, among which the Detection Guidance and Control Technology is a national demonstration specialty, and was authorized to recruit secondary discipline masters in the Artillery, Automatic Weapons and Ammunition Engineering in 1986, secondary discipline masters in the Weapon System and Launch Engineering in 2003 and first discipline masters in Weapon Science and Technology in 2011; Artillery, Automatic Weapons and Ammunition Engineering subjects was listed as the key-constructed subjects by Liaoning province in 2002 , the advanced key subjects in 2009; and the project of "Network Energy Ammunition Technology" to cultivate special doctors; in 2013 the weapon system experiment and teaching demonstration center of weapon system in Liaoning province was set up.

The School has Science and Technology Key Laboratory of Weapons and Science and Technology Research Key Laboratory of Weapons in Liaoning province; it also has the Wind Tunnel Laboratory based on state-level base of science and technology cooperation between China and Russia. Based on the Weapons of Shenyang University of Science and Engineering Research Center, the new concept and new principle of laboratory, the smart ammunition laboratory and the micro system application laboratory were established. The School is the important member of Modern Weapons and Equipment Engineering Research Center, Weapon Engineer Association and Blasting Association in Liaoning province.

With the change and development of history, the characteristics of defense studies in the School gradually changed from the manufacturing of ammunition and fuze technology to high and new technology development of weapons. Currently, the important research direction focuses on the new concept weapon system, smart ammunition, efficient mutilate and end effect, tiny weapons systems application, special energy and fire workers of informational application, new material and new technology of weapon system, electromagnetic effect and microwave theory, information application of weapon system.

The School was once awarded the second prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress and the third prize of National Invention; it gained more than 10 times of the national defense science and technology progress prize and provincial science and technology progress prize; In the last three years, it undertook 14 items of the national natural science fund, 863 projects and the national defense pre-research and 25 items of provincial research projects and business cooperation projects, with accumulation of 18.5 million Yuan scientific research funds; during the Twelfth Five-year Project it undertook 16 items of national defense pre-research with 31 million Yuan fund. more than 300 papers, 12 works, translation and teaching materials and 1 works sponsored by Ministry of Defense Fund were published.

In the future development, the college, passing army and industry spirit down, regarding the features of the national defense as core values, viewing the school-enterprises collaborative innovation, and civil-military integration development as a development strategy, will make positive contribution to national defense and the talents cultivation for weapon industry.

Ammunition Engineering & Explosion Technology

Ammunition Engineering and Explosion Technology was first set up in 1954(Military and Industrial School), in 1960(Bachelor), and was established in 1978 and stopped admission in 1985. When Ministry of Education adjusted the professional directory in 2012, Ammunition Engineering and Explosion technology was restored, remaining as one of the seven existing national weapon majors and the province-level key specialty in Liaoning. Artillery and Automatic Weapons and Ammunition Engineering are the important frames to the specialty.

It was approved to be the reform pilot profession of “Engineering Talents Training Mode” of common colleges and universities in Liaoning province in 2014. There is a Provincial Key Laboratory in weapon science and technology, an experimental teaching demonstration center of Liaoning province, a weapon system virtual simulation experiment center of Liaoning province and 4 off-campus practice teaching bases.

The characteristic of this major is intended to cultivate students with excellent design abilities in large caliber shrapnel ammunition. The professional goal is not only to train the senior talents with applied technology in moral, intellectual, physical, all-round developments, but also guide them to systematically master the basic theories and skills in ammunition system design, arrow manufacturing and terminal effect, also, strengthen their innovative consciousness and practical engineering abilities .The graduates will have the knowledge in analysis and integration of the overall system, theoretical analysis and numerical simulation, engineering design, test method and experimental research, and engage in the work of system design, technology development, product manufacturing, testing, technical management, scientific research in the fields of ammunition engineering, explosive and blasting technology in the relevant enterprises and institutions, research institutes and institutions of higher learning, etc.

Detection Guidance & Control Technology

Detection Guidance and Control Technology was set up in 1954, originally named Fuze Technology in Shenyang Military and Industrial School(Shenyang Ligong University in 1950s). When Ministry of Education adjusted professional directory in 1998,the original Fuze Technology, Fire Control and Command System Engineering, Vehicle Guidance and Control (part), and the Torpedo Mine Engineering (part) all four merged as the major of Detection Guidance and Control Technology, remaining as one of the six weapon professions at that time. In 2012, Ministry of Education adjusted professional directory again, and the specialty of arms was changed to weapons, therefore, Detection Guidance and Control Technology has become one of the seven existing national weapon majors.

This major was approved to the school-brand subject in 2005,won the title of the Liaoning Provincial Demonstrative Specialty in 2007, honored as one of the Specialized Construction Points in the second batch of national colleges and universities in 2008, became one of the pilot projects in the second batch of “Outstanding Engineers Training Plan” by Ministry of Education in 2011.Also, it was approved to be the reform pilot profession of “Engineering Talents Training Mode” of common colleges and universities ,meanwhile, the construction project of college students practice base in Liaoning province in 2012. It is made up of a province-level experimental teaching demonstration center and a virtual simulation laboratory of the weapon system in Liaoning, and two off-campus practice teaching bases.

This specialty is intended to cultivate the students with basic theories as well as great practical and innovative abilities in the field of Detection Guidance and Control Technology and improve them with a solid specialized knowledge system as well as all-round developments of moral, intellectual, physical, etc. Graduates can work in the relevant scientific research units, institutes of higher learning and enterprises engaging in the system design and technology research and development, products manufacturing, engineering management, etc.

Special Energy Technology & Engineering

Special Energy Technology and Engineering is one of the seven existing national weapon majors in Shenyang Ligong University and on the basis of the original profession of initiating explosive devices,restored and reconstructed depending on the national commands in 2004. It consists of such practical teaching links as professional experiments and teaching practice, engineering post practice, course design, production practice, comprehensive innovation, entrepreneurship training, graduation design, etc. It works on training personnel with well-founded engineering theory, the solid specialized knowledge system, good engineering practice and innovation ability, and fostering all-round talents of excellence in engineering and techniques morally, intellectually and physically.

After years of construction and development, Special Energy Technology and Engineering stands out its characteristics in military industry and highlights in special energy production and usage. There is an experimental teaching demonstration center of weapon system, a virtual simulation laboratory of Liaoning province, and two off-campus practice teaching bases.

Adhering to the guidance of enterprise demands and innovation personnel training, this major specializes in Energetic Devices Engineering and Application and focuses on the technology of the initiating explosive device, helps the students master Mathematics, Chemistry, Mechanics, Materials Science and other related basic theories of natural science. With the help of the fundamental theories, students may develop their practical and innovative abilities in the fields of combustion and explosion system modeling and simulation, synthesis and characterization of energetic materials, manufacturing design and engineering application of energetic materials, engineering blasting design and practice. Graduates can work in the relevant scientific research units, institutes of higher learning and enterprises engaging in the system design and technology research and development, products manufacturing, analysis tests, safety assessment and management, etc.

Weapon Launch Engineering

Weapon Launch Engineering is one of the seven existing national weapon majors in Shenyang Ligong University,and on the basis of the original artillery manufacturing professional,was restored and constructed according to national commands in 2007. The specialty affiliated with artillery, automatic weapons and ammunition of the major engineering secondary discipline and weapon system and using engineering the secondary discipline, and the artillery automatic weapons and ammunition engineering discipline is the key discipline of Liaoning Provincial Committee of Education.

After years of construction and development, Weapon Launch Engineering, setting up military industry characteristics, highlight the characteristics of small arms design and the professional features of advanced manufacturing. There are an Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Weapon System, a Virtual Simulation Experiment of Weapon System in Liaoning Province, and 2 off-campus practice teaching bases.

Our specialty aims to meet the needs of national defense and the local economic construction, morally, intellectually and physically developed senior applied talents, importantly master gun and automatic weapons design and manufacture of basic theoretical knowledge, master weapon system overall design and launch technology basic theory, basic knowledge. Graduates can engage in artillery and automatic weapons systems design and analysis, product manufacturing, technology development, test, scientific research management in the relevant production enterprises, scientific research units, management departments and units.

Information Warfare Technology

Information Warfare Technology is one of the seven existing national weapon specialties in Shenyang Ligong University, and was set up in 2009, according to the national commands. With professional experiments and practice teaching, engineering post practice, course design, production practice, comprehensive innovation, innovation, entrepreneurship training, graduation design being the main practice teaching links, the specialty focuses on the cultivation of excellence, high-quality engineering and technical talents in moral, intellectual, physical aspects, with strong information of warfare technology and engineering theory, the solid specialized knowledge system, good engineering practice and innovation ability.

After years of construction and development, Information Warfare Technology, being characteristics of military industry, highlights the characteristics of information countermeasure system design. There are an Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Weapon System, a Virtual Simulation Experiment of Weapon System in Liaoning province, and 2 off-campus practice teaching bases.

Information Warfare Technology aims to train high-qualified engineering professionals in information assurance and defense subjects. They are required to own comprehensive knowledge and quality, integrated ability, including excellent engineering practice ability and innovation awareness in information system security, basic principle, technology methods and other relative knowledge to engage in scientific research, system design, technology development, operations management and other aspects in military and civilian fields, universities, industrial information, national defense construction and management departments. Students are mainly required to acquire basic theory and knowledge of information security defense, attack detection, emergency handling, security defense, engineering practice, to be trained on analysis of information security systems, processing of technology defense, and to get access to the basic skills of information security, information defense, information security engineering, information security management and other aspects.
